CBS Summer School at Permahaven

aldi.msc@cbs.dk · 28/06/2023 ·

On Monday, June 26th, Maribel Blasco led an engaging session titled “Permaculture: a Regenerative Approach to Circularity” as part of the CBS Summer School course, “An Introduction to Circular Economy,” coordinated by MSC Associate Professor Martin Skrydstrup.

During this session, students had the opportunity to delve into the permaculture design framework through the application of the renowned “head-hands-heart” approach from environmental education scholarship.

Students embarked on an inspiring visit to Permahaven, where they witnessed the practical implementation of various permaculture ethics and design principles. From the fascinating techniques of no-dig gardening and mulching to our thriving apple tree guilds, the usage of “green manure” (including cardboard, compost, lupins, and phacelia), and the strategic utilization of “weeds” like our beloved horsetail to cover and enrich the soil, students explored the diverse aspects of sustainable permaculture practices.

Additionally, participants discovered the invaluable biodiversity functions of certain “weeds,” such as thistles, which not only contribute to the ecosystem but also attract aphids (bladlus) that might otherwise pose a threat to our crops.

A highlight of the session was the permaculture challenge activity, where students showcased their creativity by devising permaculture-inspired solutions to tackle our horsetail issue. It was remarkable that just as participants safely returned to the lecture hall, a downpour commenced outside, as if by some miracle! 😃

In the final segment, students were encouraged to reflect on how they could incorporate permaculture principles into their own lifestyles, fostering a lasting impact on the environment. You can find the presentation of Maribel on the Resources page here.

First harvest at Permahaven and Skt. Hans Summer party

aldi.msc@cbs.dk · 26/06/2023 ·

We had the pleasure of hosting a Workshop on applying permaculture principles to our lifestyles, followed by a delightful Skt. Hans Summer party on Friday, June 23rd. It was truly a fantastic and hyggelig afternoon!

During the immersive workshop, we explored the perspective of designing sustainable and harmonious lifestyles. Participants gained practical knowledge and techniques to incorporate permaculture into their homes, gardens, and daily routines. It’s empowering to see how we can create a more humane and eco-friendly way of living.

After the workshop, we continued the celebration with a delightful Skt. Hans Summer party. We indulged in delicious food and refreshing drinks while taking the opportunity to relax, connect with like-minded individuals, and appreciate the beauty of nature.

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the CBS Climate Club for their generous funding and for arranging our refreshments. Your support made the event even more enjoyable! A special shout-out goes to Sebastian for making it all happen. Thank you!

Exciting Update: Permaculture Workshop & CBS WIRE Article!

aldi.msc@cbs.dk · 06/06/2023 ·

We’re thrilled to share the latest updates from our Permahaven! Recently, we hosted an interactive workshop titled “In-depth Introduction to Permaculture Design Principles” on Saturday, June 3rd. We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to all the wonderful participants who attended and generously shared their insights. Your dedication to our shared cause truly touched our hearts!

During this immersive workshop, we delved deeper into the captivating world of permaculture design. We started in the classroom, where we explored the fundamental principles and emphasized the significance of nurturing the soil. From there, we ventured into the garden for a hands-on session, discovering practical ways to apply these principles and bring them to life.

Additionally, we are thrilled to share an article about our endeavors. Titled “Permaculture gardeners want to defy business school norm of neat green lawns,” it was featured on CBS WIRE and written by Caroline Hammargren. You can read the full article here.

Practical workshop: Permaculture techniques and volunteer etiquette

aldi.msc@cbs.dk · 12/05/2023 ·

We’re excited to announce that as part of our commitment to the Green Transition, we recently held a practical workshop called PERMAHAVEN: Permaculture Techniques and Volunteer Etiquette on Friday, May 5th, from 12:00 to 15:00. The workshop introduced the concept of permaculture and its techniques.

We’re incredibly grateful to all the participants who attended the workshop and contributed their valuable input to our Permahaven development. Despite the cold, windy weather, an international and interdisciplinary group of volunteers from both CBS and beyond came together to plant vegetables and wildflowers in our raised beds. It was truly heartwarming to see everyone’s dedication to our shared cause!

Check out Dr. Isabel Fróes personal impressions of the event on LinkedIn here.

Permahaven at CBS Green Business Forum

aldi.msc@cbs.dk · 19/04/2023 ·

We are delighted to share with you the incredible presentation given by Isabel Froes and Maribel Blasco at the Green Business Forum at CBS! Their talk focused on the vital role of sustainable gardening in a business school context, and it was truly inspiring to see the holistic perspectives of permaculture thinking being applied to the world of green business.

At CBS, we believe that everyone can make a positive contribution to our planet, and that’s why we are thrilled to welcome you to our very own Permahave. Here, you can roll up your sleeves, get your fingers in the soil, and engage in a dialogue about design principles and practical strategies that can help us all to improve our relationship with the earth, ourselves, and each other.

The session took place outside Kilen, in the heart of our very own Permahave. This incredible space is where we are unfolding the concept of permaculture.
