Permahaven at CBS Green Business Forum, 2024

aldi.msc@cbs.dk · 18/04/2024 ·

We’re thrilled to share highlights from the recent session at the CBS Green Business Forum, where the focus was on Urban Gardens as Learning Spaces for sustainability education at universities. Permahaven, our pioneering permaculture garden, took center stage as the first of its kind to be established at a business school. With an experimental approach, we’re integrating the permaculture design framework into our management education context.

The lively panel discussion featured Boncho Kostadinov and Peder Glud from Århus Green Business Academy, alongside CBS Associate Professor Maribel Blasco and postdoctoral researcher Albina Dioba. Together, they explored the exciting opportunities and challenges of utilizing urban gardens for learning and biodivercity conservation.

Following the enriching indoor discussions in Kilen, participants embarked on a sensory exploration of Permahaven through an interactive tour, further deepening their understanding and connection to sustainable practices.

Collaboration between Permahaven and Malmø University

aldi.msc@cbs.dk · 05/02/2024 ·

We are thrilled to announce a collaborative project between a group of students enrolled in the Master in Interaction Design program at Malmø University and the Permahaven.

Associate Professor Anne-Marie Skriver Hansen, a dedicated volunteer at Permahaven, reached out to us with a proposal. Her Master course in Relational Design at Malmø University focuses on sustainable human and more-than-human relationships, and she saw the potential for Permahaven to be an inspiring case for her students. We were honored to accept this opportunity to collaborate.

The journey began with an insightful online seminar where we shared the background of Permahaven and presented the communication challenges we are working on. The students, eager to dive into real-world scenarios, conducted interviews with our team, visited Permahaven in Frederiksberg, and distributed questionnaires among our dedicated volunteers and other stakeholders.

The interdisciplinary collaboration between Permahaven and Malmø University’s Master in Interaction Design students has been both inspiring and promising. We are eagerly anticipating the creative solutions that will emerge from this partnership. Stay tuned for updates on the progress of this exciting project!

Thank you to Associate Professor Anne-Marie Skriver Hansen and the talented students for their dedication and enthusiasm.

Watch this space for further developments! 🌿

CBS Summer School at Permahaven

aldi.msc@cbs.dk · 28/06/2023 ·

On Monday, June 26th, Maribel Blasco led an engaging session titled “Permaculture: a Regenerative Approach to Circularity” as part of the CBS Summer School course, “An Introduction to Circular Economy,” coordinated by MSC Associate Professor Martin Skrydstrup.

During this session, students had the opportunity to delve into the permaculture design framework through the application of the renowned “head-hands-heart” approach from environmental education scholarship.

Students embarked on an inspiring visit to Permahaven, where they witnessed the practical implementation of various permaculture ethics and design principles. From the fascinating techniques of no-dig gardening and mulching to our thriving apple tree guilds, the usage of “green manure” (including cardboard, compost, lupins, and phacelia), and the strategic utilization of “weeds” like our beloved horsetail to cover and enrich the soil, students explored the diverse aspects of sustainable permaculture practices.

Additionally, participants discovered the invaluable biodiversity functions of certain “weeds,” such as thistles, which not only contribute to the ecosystem but also attract aphids (bladlus) that might otherwise pose a threat to our crops.

A highlight of the session was the permaculture challenge activity, where students showcased their creativity by devising permaculture-inspired solutions to tackle our horsetail issue. It was remarkable that just as participants safely returned to the lecture hall, a downpour commenced outside, as if by some miracle! 😃

In the final segment, students were encouraged to reflect on how they could incorporate permaculture principles into their own lifestyles, fostering a lasting impact on the environment. You can find the presentation of Maribel on the Resources page here.

First harvest at Permahaven and Skt. Hans Summer party

aldi.msc@cbs.dk · 26/06/2023 ·

We had the pleasure of hosting a Workshop on applying permaculture principles to our lifestyles, followed by a delightful Skt. Hans Summer party on Friday, June 23rd. It was truly a fantastic and hyggelig afternoon!

During the immersive workshop, we explored the perspective of designing sustainable and harmonious lifestyles. Participants gained practical knowledge and techniques to incorporate permaculture into their homes, gardens, and daily routines. It’s empowering to see how we can create a more humane and eco-friendly way of living.

After the workshop, we continued the celebration with a delightful Skt. Hans Summer party. We indulged in delicious food and refreshing drinks while taking the opportunity to relax, connect with like-minded individuals, and appreciate the beauty of nature.

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the CBS Climate Club for their generous funding and for arranging our refreshments. Your support made the event even more enjoyable! A special shout-out goes to Sebastian for making it all happen. Thank you!

aldi.msc@cbs.dk · 19/04/2023 ·

We are delighted to share with you the incredible presentation given by Isabel Froes and Maribel Blasco at the Green Business Forum at CBS! Their talk focused on the vital role of sustainable gardening in a business school context, and it was truly inspiring to see the holistic perspectives of permaculture thinking being applied to the world of green business.

At CBS, we believe that everyone can make a positive contribution to our planet, and that’s why we are thrilled to welcome you to our very own Permahave. Here, you can roll up your sleeves, get your fingers in the soil, and engage in a dialogue about design principles and practical strategies that can help us all to improve our relationship with the earth, ourselves, and each other.

The session took place outside Kilen, in the heart of our very own Permahave. This incredible space is where we are unfolding the concept of permaculture.
